Dwarf Yaupon: North America's only native caffeinated plant! It has many of the same health benefits of camellia sinensis (tea plant) but is less fussy and impervious to late frosts.

I'm hoping I'll be able to switch over from coffee after researching carcinogenic acrylamides created by the roasting process of all commercial coffees. Coffee is life, so we'll see if I'm able to make the jump.

picnic on cemetery hill

Asher made homemade lemonade and Ayla made violet ice cubes.

{ solar eclipse } We had 96% coverage, which was (surprisingly) still pretty bright but very muted and eerie!

hens with beards bring me joy.

Amberly brought us a new rooster from their farm last week. As soon as I let him out of the kennel to join our flock, he ran all the way back to her house at full speed. He somehow navigated about 3/4 of a mile through the forest back to their front door!

Meet Tom Sawyer

Huckleberry tolerates him just fine, but he's not too happy about it. Tom Sawyer is his son, so we get a good chuckle out of their funny relationship. (Huck is an extremely trustworthy LGD or it wouldn't be funny)

I can't get ahead of the hungry deer, skunk, possum, and rabbit issues in the back pasture. They win. I'm defeated.  I've started transplanting my apple trees  all around the house.

they're dinky after being nibbled on for a year, but I think they'll flourish closer to the house (where the dogs and cats spend most of their time).

I planted Major Wheeler Honeysuckle (native) all over the place.

sprouts. (broccoli + speckled pea)

I'm starting my garden seeds via hydroponics this year. As soon as I'm finished with my garden starts, I'll move on to propogating blueberry and goumi cuttings.
