Garden season is almost a wrap! We grew (many, many) more weeds than produce this year, but that's okay. Ideas for next year: (1) wider spacing between rows to easily allow the mower, weed wacker, hoe and our feet through without damaging plants we want growing, (2) plant less tomatoes, (3) use a cattle panel hoop to plant potatoes.

more garden notes: plants beneath the giant pine tree grew 1/4 the size of the plants in the rest of the garden. Also, the ducks get 5 stars for pest control. They nibbled and trampled a few seedlings, but saved the rest from destructive insects. Placing hydroponic cups over seedlings fixed the trampling problem. Bravo, duckies!

A Gathering Shindig at Matthew and Amberly's farm. His side of the family + our side of the family + an open fire of roasted smores and hot dogs = the sweetest time.

My willows have gone from lifeless cuttings to 15 feet tall saplings in one season! I paused for a moment of awe when I realized they were peeking well over the back side of the garden fence.

A little adventure in the dark forest during a full moon: a long walk to the mailbox without flashlights. The dogs never left our side and we didn't get eaten by bears. yay.
