Both of our Welsh Harlequin duckies are each sitting on a pile of eggs! I love having baby ducks, but only if I have nothing to do with tending them or keeping them clean. Zero, nothing, never again. Raising them in a brooder box is the stinkiest, slimiest, icky-est endevour… no thanks. Letting them raise their own is the way to go.
Tillamook, Carmine & Red Gem Goumi Planted ✓. I’ve been waiting over two years for both Tillamook and Carmine varieties to become available, and once they came in stock, I was on a waiting list for 8 months. They arrived in the mail today and I planted them within the hour. Happy dance! (let’s pretend you can see them in this picture).
peekaboo little buddies! A promise of Spring smiling up at me from my mini-greenhouses (made out of 32oz cups with dome lids). It’s probably silly to winter sow radishes when they’re better off being direct-sown, but I was starving to grow something and I knew these guys would jump up quick. Three cheers for Japanese Wasabi Radishes from Baker Creek Seeds!
First timer! I’ll likely winter sow every year forevermore as long as I’m able. This mess of ugly totes, red solo cups, and re-purposed salad containers filled with soil and seeds is curing that itch to start working in the garden while I still have 3 0r 4 months of waiting before planting time. It’s officially my new favorite winter passtime.
Also starting a batch of water kefir for the first time. I don’t have a great track record with keeping fermented things alive, so we’ll see how this goes...
